San Luis, Arizona — Representatives from Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) gathered at San Luis City Hall last Thursday, February 2, 2017 to present the new initiatives to streamline the safety inspection process at Arizona’s Port of Entries to local government and agencies.
Among those in attendance were Mayor Gerardo Sanchez, Vice Mayor Matias Rosales, and City Manager Tadeo A. De La Hoya, of the City of San Luis. Alongside Mayor Doug Nicholls of the City of Yuma, Mayor Cecilia C. McCollough of the Town of Welton, Paul Ward, Executive Director of Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization (YMPO), Tim Lane, Director of Enforcement and Compliance Division for ADOT, Gail Lewis, Director of ADOT’s Office of P3’s initiatives and International Affairs, and other regional partners and stakeholders.
During this meeting, a presentation was provided by Ms. Gail Lewis on the improvements to the Port of Entries focusing on Port of Entry I and Port of Entry II. Following the presentation by Ms. Lewis, a tour and demonstration of the ADOT Safety Inspection Facilities at the San Luis Port of Entry II took place. Mayor Gerardo Sanchez commented, “It has been a work in progress and it will continue to be a work in progress and a priority of my administration to continue working to get these improvements”. He added that he continues to work on opening Port of Entry II for the use of private vehicles.
