[ARCHIVED] CITY COUNCIL APPOINTS NEW VICE MAYOR

San Luis, Arizona — On Wednesday, July 12th, during the regular City Council meeting, Mayor Gerardo Sanchez and City Council Members unanimously appointed Maria C. Ramos as the new vice mayor of the City of San Luis.  

 

During the regular City Council meeting on July 12th, 2017, Council Member Africa Luna-Carrasco motioned to appoint Maria C. Ramos as vice mayor; motion was seconded by Council Member Gloria Torres, and unanimously approved by a 6-0 vote.    

 

Vice Mayor Maria C. Ramos accepted the nomination and remarked, “thank you all for the opportunity.”  Maria C. Ramos was elected to the City of San Luis City Council for a four-year term on June 13, 2012.  She was then re-elected as a Council Member on December 14, 2016 for a second four-year term.  Since assuming office in 2012, she has been highly active in community and civic affairs.  She currently serves as President of the South Yuma County Domestic Violence Coalition, where she is leading efforts to construct the first domestic violence shelter in South Yuma County.  Vice Mayor Ramos is also a member of the Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization and is responsible for coordinating National Day of Prayer every May.  

 

Former Vice Mayor Matias Rosales served in this capacity as of May 22, 2013.  During his tenure, he became well known to be a fervent proponent of youth sports and a champion for investing and improving the San Luis Ports of Entry.  During the Council meeting he expressed his appreciation to Mayor Sanchez and Council for the opportunity to serve the City of San Luis as vice mayor.  “It has been an honor to serve the residents of San Luis as vice mayor; I will continue working for the City of San Luis. I know that our new vice mayor is going to work hard and continue to move us forward.” 

 

“I know that Vice Mayor Maria Ramos is going to do a great job. We have a lot of work ahead of us and we are going to continue making a difference together,” said Mayor Gerardo Sanchez.
