[ARCHIVED] City of San Luis Launches Recycling Pilot Program in Los Alamos and Los Jardines

Recycling Pilot

San Luis, Arizona — Earlier this week, The City of San Luis hosted residential meetings in the southwest and northern ends of San Luis to prepare for the launch of the City of San Luis Recycling Pilot Program.

First announced early last fiscal year, the City of San Luis Public Works department has been hard at work in calculating which residential areas would be piloted based off of capacity. It was then determined that Los Alamos and Los Jardines were going to be the selected residential areas.

In a period of a year, 720 families will be participating in the pilot program to measure the costs and the potential saving for the residents. San Luis Solid Waste Division will be the collecting the recyclable waste on Thursdays and then transferring the recyclables to the City of Somerton Recycling Plant to be distributed per categories and recycled properly.

“As we look ahead on the growth and development of the City of San Luis it is important to implement projects that our community request. Several members of our community have requested having a recycling program in place”, stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “We are estimating over 30 percent of recyclables to be collected within this timeframe. This would provide us a positive perspective in determining if a recycling program will be implemented throughout the city,” Mayor Sanchez added.

Starting Monday, August 20, 2018, a new bin with a blue lid will be delivered to the residents in both Los Alamos Subdivision and Los Jardines Subdivision. Recyclable items will be picked every Thursday, starting September 6, 2018, in both areas. Open Recycling bins have been placed at Joe Orduño Park and the Public Works Yard (opened from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) for those members of the community who would like to recycle and do not have a bin at home.
