San Luis, Arizona — The San Luis Mayor and City Council appointed Acting Chief of Police Richard Jessup as the permanent Chief of Police for San Luis during the regular council meeting on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
Chief Jessup took office on Thursday, December 13, 2018, after serving as Acting Chief of Police since late June of 2017. Chief Jessup began his law enforcement career in 1982 in the State of California, later transferring to the Yuma Police Department in 1983. He has served with the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety, as a Highway Patrol Officer, and a detective with the San Luis Police Department.
Apart from law enforcement, Chief Jessup serves as an adjunct college professor at Glendale Community College where he teaches in the Administration of Justice Studies program and is an instructor at Arizona Western College Law Enforcement Training Academy, where he lectures on Cultural Diversity.
Chief Jessup is proud to be serving the citizen of San Luis and intends to continue to work closely with the community. As Chief of Police, Mr. Jessup plans to enhance the current operations, reinforce community policing, and continue to keep the City of San Luis as one of the safest cities in the State of Arizona.
