House Appropriations Comittee

San Luis, Arizona – Earlier this week, the House of Appropriations Committee visited San Luis, met with local officials and discussed the urgent need to modernize the San Luis Port of Entry I to continue assisting the U.S. Customs and Border Protection can continue their mission.

While in town, The House of Appropriations Committee and their Chairman, Congressman Mike Quigley and Arizona District #3 Congressman Raul M. Grijalva met with Mayor Gerardo Sanchez, Vice Mayor Maria Cecilia Cruz, Council Member Matias Rosales, City Manager Tadeo A. De La Hoya, and Economic Development Manager Jenny Torres. Also present, were San Luis Port Director John Schwamm, Mr. Anthony Kleppe and Mr. Scott Nielsen, from the General Service Administration (GSA).

During their visit, Mayor Gerardo Sanchez provided a presentation that illustrated the impact the long border wait times is having on our community and the economy of San Luis. Mayor Gerardo Sanchez also praised the joint efforts between San Luis Rio Colorado and San Luis, Arizona on the Port of Entry project.

“While the San Luis Port of Entry I is already on President Trump’s proposed budget, we need to continue advocating for the modernization and expansion,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “I would like to thank the Congressmen for their trip down here and GSA for their continued support,” he added.
