On January 17, 2020, a water line break on Cesar Chavez Blvd., between San Luis Plaza Dr., and Hidalgo Ave., eroded an undetermined area beneath the bridge. Although a preliminary engineering evaluation revealed that the bridge span itself continues to be safe, it is necessary to determine if it is one hundred percent safe for vehicular traffic.
A comprehensive engineering evaluation of the bridge will be completed and simultaneously assess the water line leak for the necessary repair strategies. The roadway will continue to be closed to through traffic until this is completed. All motorists are urged to use marked detour routes.
“While the road closure might seem as an inconvenience for the area residents, safety comes first,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez, adding that the city remains committed to ensuring the welfare of all its residents.
