The ongoing project to improve downtown San Luis between the Arizona Department of Transportation, the city of San Luis and Yuma County continues to make progress with Phase II of the project now coming to an end and Phase III, Main Street, scheduled to begin March 9.
Workers are currently applying the final protective sealant to newly paved roadways today. The sealant will be applied to half the roadways at a time. To ensure a good quality final roadway surface, please stay off the pavement until it dries completely.
Roads to be impacted include:
• First Avenue
• Archibald Street
• Urtuzuastegui Street
• D Street
• Port of Entry- (Expect delays at the border)
One-way Streets Take Effect Next Week: First Avenue is scheduled to be converted into a one-way street northbound towards Mexico beginning Wednesday, March 4 following roadway striping.
Beginning Thursday, March 5, Archibald Street is scheduled to be converted into a one-way street southbound following roadway striping.
Work on Main Street is scheduled to begin Monday, March 9, kicking off Phase III of the project. Critical work on Main Street includes installing another section of Yuma County’s storm drain and beautifying Main Street with new pavement, additional parking, new benches and trash receptacles, striping and landscaping. One lane of travel will be maintained in each direction for local access only. Business access will be maintained.
San Luis drivers should plan ahead and allow extra travel time through the work zone. Please obey all posted signs and traffic control devices.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
