[ARCHIVED] City of San Luis to Celebrate Cesar Chavez Life & Legacy

San Luis, Arizona — The City of San Luis in conjunction with the Cesar Chavez Life and Legacy Committee, will continue with the now traditional month of March celebrations commemorating the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez beginning March 2, 2022, with the Cesar Chavez Flag Raising Ceremony.

The celebration will begin at 9:00 am in Somerton, Arizona, in front of the City of Somerton City Hall, located at 143 N State Ave, Somerton, AZ 85350. The celebration will then continue to the City of San Luis Cesar Chavez Cultural Center, located at 1015 N Main St, San Luis, AZ 85349. At 11:00 am, the Cesar Chavez Flag Raising Ceremony will take place, marking the beginning of the month-long celebration. There will be entertainment by the Gadsden School District Mariachi Band and Ballet Folklórico and refreshments will be served. The attendance and participation of the San Luis and Yuma county community its greatly encouraged. 

“Cesar Chavez is a hero to many and an inspiration to all who made history by speaking up for the voiceless and advocating for the rights and dignity of farmworkers,” stated Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. “By continuing with our month-long celebration, we are keeping his legacy alive in the memory of our residents and the future generations” Mayor Gerardo Sanchez concluded.

The Cesar Chavez Life and Legacy Committee is made up of San Luis Elected Officials, community members and different organizations that organizes this month-long celebration of various events and activities for the enjoyment of the community and to promote culture, art, and Cesar Chavez’ ideals.
