This October, the City of San Luis proudly participates in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Breast Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer for women in the United States. It remains the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women.

October is also National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men will experience severe physical and emotional violence by an intimate partner. The City of San Luis is proud to stand against domestic violence and bring awareness to this social issue.

“This October, let us honor the one currently fighting and remember all we have lost to breast cancer, but let us not forget domestic violence occurs about every 15 minutes,” stated Mayor Nieves Riedel. “Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month were proclaimed to not only educate the community and raise awareness but to bring those battling both the support and strength needed,” she concluded.
