Under the direction of San Luis Fire Department (SLFD) leadership, resources and logistical support are deployed daily to deliver emergency services. This involves direct supervision of fire suppression and prevention services, emergency medical services, technical rescue, and other specialty services. Team members are assigned to one of three 24-hour shifts or Crews (A, B, and C Crews). Each Crew comprises a battalion chief, captains, engineers, firefighters, Certified Emergency Paramedics (CEPs), and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs.)
Fire Suppression
SLFD is responsible for the prevention, control, and extinguishment of fires in the City of San Luis. Currently, SLFD employs 57 firefighters who respond to a wide variety of fire, rescue, and medical emergencies, taking necessary actions while using the adequate measures, tools, and techniques to protect life and property in our community.
Emergency Medical Services
Our personnel comprises Certified Emergency Paramedics (CEPs) and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) who strive to provide excellent patient care with rapid response times. Emergency medical care and the efficient transportation of our residents are a priority for SLFD. We continuously seek to enhance, develop, and expand services to meet the needs of our growing population while providing the best service with compassion and respect.
Hazardous Materials Response Team
The Hazardous Materials (Haz-Mat) Response Team is comprised of certified technicians who are ready to respond to any incident within the city requiring their specialized services.
In addition to emergency responses, SLFD personnel may be assigned to perform other duties including:
- Public education on fire safety and prevention and department operations
- Assist with residential and commercial inspections
- Instruct First Aid/CPR Classes
- Home Safety Inspections
- Provide blood pressure monitoring
- Support of City Events (4th of July Celebration, Parades, etc.)
