In Arizona, there are 3 types of misdemeanor classifications, including:

  • Class 1 - A class 1 misdemeanor carries a maximum punishment of 6 months in jail, a fine up to $4,613.00 and 3 years of probation.
  • Class 2 - A class 2 misdemeanor carries a maximum punishment of 4 months in jail, a fine up to $1,413.00 and 2 years of probation.
  • Class 3 - A class 3 misdemeanor carries a maximum punishment of 30 days in jail, a fine up to $943.00 and 1 year of probation.

If you have been cited for a criminal misdemeanor offense, you must appear at the San Luis Municipal Court on the designated court date and time. At a criminal arraignment, you are advised of the charges pending against you. If you decide to plead guilty or no contest to the judge, the judge may pronounce the sentence at that time or schedule sentencing for another day if there is an alleged victim or potential restitution. If you decide to plead not guilty, you will receive a new court date for a pre-trial conference.

You have a right to be represented by an attorney at your own expense at all stages of this case. If you are unable to hire an attorney, a procedure is available to have an attorney appointed to represent you. See the Defendant’s Financial Statement and Request for Court Appointed Attorney in the forms tab.
