Under Arizona law, offenses in city courts are misdemeanors and certain offenses (for example, DUI or Theft) are eligible for trial by jury. When a case is set for jury trial, the San Luis Municipal Court coordinates with the Yuma County Superior Court to develop a list of jurors with San Luis addresses and the Superior Court then sends out written notices to appear for jury duty at the City Court. This notice is called a Jury Summons.

The Summons requests any potential juror to respond to a Questionnaire that asks for information and data as to address, prior jury experience, and other demographics.

Serving as a juror is considered both a citizen’s duty and opportunity that connects a defendant’s right to have their case heard in a community forum with a juror’s ability to participate in the criminal trial process.

Jurors are to report to the San Luis Municipal Court located at 767 N. William Brooks Ave. San Luis, Arizona no later than 8:15 am. You must pass through Security screening prior to entering the Court, please arrive with sufficient time to complete the screening process and check-in. Please bring your Jury Summons with you and a valid picture identification.

If selected for jury service, the judge will explain the rules and you will be expected to be at the courthouse until you are excused. If you have any questions during your jury service, please feel free to reach out to the court staff, they will be more than happy to help and guide you through the process.
